Time Dilation: The First Virtual IA Band

Bands are always a few people with instruments, writing songs and performing concerts. Nevertheless, nobody said the band members had to live in the same place. A virtual band, Time Dilation, was started by three creative iCademy students, Alex LaRosa, Gabrielle Toutin, and Hamzah Jameel, known by the stage name Meezo.

The name of the band, Time Dilation, is a scientific phenomenon that happens when a traveler gets close to the event horizon of a black hole. It will appear that time passes normally for the traveler, while everybody else’s is actually normal and the observer is nearly frozen in time. This is gravitational time dilation. It can also occur when the traveler is traveling at near the speed of light (velocity time dilation).

And, finally…! An EP of three songs is out! The EP, appropriately titled Hello World, is Time Dilation’s first accomplishment. It was written via Skype and is a perfect example of online collaboration.

Alex LaRosa is the lead singer, guitarist, instrument programmer, and sound engineer. Gabrielle Toutin has contributed as a guitarist and vocalists. Hamzah Jameel greatly contributed in writing the lyrics.

Throughout the process, each member learned how to collaborate over a distance, and stretched themselves as musicians and writers.

Here is the 3-song EP on YouTube!

Enjoy!
