Rural Illinois Skies

I live in rural Illinois, and whenever my aunt from the city comes to visit, she always comments on how open our skies are here. Because of the flat land around us, and because of an absence of skyscrapers, our skies seem to expand straight to the horizon, forming a vast dome over the earth. Sometimes the sky offers unusual cloud and light formations, and we are delighted with the marvels of nature.
This photograph was taken from the parking lot of a local shopping center at sunset. The clouds, light, and wind that sculpted the clouds created a fantastic, almost surreal scene.

These pictures were taken at sunset as my family and I were driving to a nearby town. The wisps of clouds streaked above the horizon seemed like they could be from the skies of another planet.
