Oui, Je Voudrais Une Patisserie!

gt1.JPG

Welcoming many French pastry lovers with these words, this aged wooden sign is at the counter of Baguette et Chocolat, the only local authentic French bakery in the city of Austin. Boulangerie means bakery, and patisserie means pastry or confectioner's shop. And this shop indeed has many pastries.

It is understandably often hard to choose a pastry to buy at this shop.

On the bottom shelf are the delicious chocolatey French pastries loved by many, including some original pastries named after cities and landmarks in France and Austin. Some among the bottom shelf are the tarte au chocolat, raspberry tart, and Paris-Austin. On the shelf directly above that, more chocolate pastries and a quiche lurk. To the left of them are the Parisian macarons. On the top shelf, there are plates of chouquettes, pain au chocolat, and a few others.

These macarons are offered in many different flavors, such as pistachio, dark chocolate, lemon, praline, and vanilla. These taste sweet, but distinctly taste like their flavor as well.

These are the chouquettes. They taste like sugary bread. The white is made of sugar crystals.

Bon appétit!
