Are you interested in foreign policy and international relations? Are you interested in peacekeeping and conflict resolution? Do you enjoy discussing and debating world issues? What about learning about the structure and functionality of the United Nations?
If you answered affirmatively to any of the above questions, then I welcome and encourage you to drop by a Model United Nations meeting!
What is Model UN exactly? Essentially, we simulate the functions of the real life UN General Assembly. As, “student delegates,” club members take on the roles of ambassadors and representatives of various member UN nations.
Who can join and participate? Model UN is open to all full time K12 International Academy students.
How can I participate? Simply come by a meeting (our next one is on December 3rd), and our club Advisors, Mrs. Dawson and Ms. McAfee, will provide an interest survey.
When and how often is it? The K12 International Academy Chapter of Model UN meets the first Wednesday of each month at 1pm EST, September through June.
Where? In Blackboard Collaborate – find the meetings in your OLS CC list!
Model UN also has open officer and leadership positions; if you are interested, please do join us in December! The discussion and resolution topic of December is the situation in Syria, from the perspective of a peacekeeping process.
See you there!
