Have you ever watched competitive diving on television? Perhaps in the Olympics? It is a very difficult sport to master. Diving first started as a sport in Sweden and Germany in the late 1800s. It became an Olympic sport in 1904, but Americans and Germans were the only countries that competed, and only men were allowed to compete. However, women were allowed to dive in the Olympics by 1928. Diving has remained an important sport in the Olympics, college, and high school.
