Introducing 5SOS!

In 2011, four Australian guys decided to make a band. These guys were Ashton Irwin, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood and Michael Clifford. Michael, Luke and Calum began on YouTube, gaining fans slowly by making covers of their idols’ songs. Luke and Michael are guitarists and Calum is a bassist, but they needed a drummer. Michael knew Ashton and decided that, because he knew how to use the drums, he should be the band’s drummer. That formed 5 Seconds of Summer. After a while, the band made its first single, “Out of my Limit.” The music is considered pop-punk. The boys began playing in the streets and at small places. Finally, they began to play at Australia arenas, and not too long after, European arenas. In 2013, they came to the United States, playing about 7 shows. This year, they released their self-titled debut album. On September 23, their Amnesia EP will be released in America and Canada. They have won many awards like the OZ Artist 2013 and Teen Choice Award 2014. They have also been to the VMA’ sand Billboard Music Awards. The top 5 songs on their album are “Kiss me Kiss me,” “Everything I Didn’t Say,” “Greenlight,” “18,” and one of my favorites, “Amnesia.” Their hit single, “She Looks So Perfect” came out a few months ago and is still very popular.

How about the guys? Calum Hood plays bass and is Kiwi and Scottish. Fun fact: his favorite ice cream flavor is mint chocolate. Michael Clifford plays guitar and is English, Scottish, Irish, German, and Australian. He loves playing video games. Luke Hemmings is another guitarist and is fully Australian. His favorite animal is the penguin. Ashton Irwin is the drummer and is half Australian and half American. They all sing in the band, but they claim Luke is the lead.

Some more fun facts about the band are that they thought of the name in their math class. The exact day they became a band is April 3, 2011. The band loves when its twitter names have something to do with the band, including a part of any of their names. Luke loves smiley faces with noses ( :-] ). They were the opening act for One Direction’s Where We Are Tour this past year, but they consider themselves a rock band, and not a boy band. Everyone knows Niall Horan from One Direction, right? Well, he discovered them. The 5SOS guys made their on record label named Hi or Hey Records. How to pronounce 5SOS? If you’re saying “5-es-oh-es,” you’re incorrect. It would be more like “5 Sauce.”

I own the normal and Target edition of their album and their US edition She Looks So Perfect EP. Their music is so lively and strong. I love them, not only because their music is amazing, but also because they are real and honest. You can find their album at a Best Buy, Fye, or any other music store.

A favorite quote of theirs is “We’d rather make records than break them.” I personally think that is amazing.
